Mr. Calvin Yam (2003/Government and Public Administration) & Miss Soo Hui Ying (Environmental Science/Year 3)

This was the first time I met my mentor, but I had a great time with him. First, I have to thank Mr. Yam for being my mentor and being willing to meet me after the busy work. We shared tasty food and discussed lots of things, from traveling, school life to further career path. He also shared his experiences in work, his planning for the future which made me think a lot about my future too. It seems that growing up is not as simple as I think. As we are both Christian, I was so glad I could share my thoughts and feeling to someone that do not know anyone from my church but could still understand my worry and thoughts. One of the quotes he said which I still remember today was a Bible verse.“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16) I used to hear it in my church when I was small but couldn’t relate it to my life to it. Now, I have grown up, it’s time to be prepared and be a “smart and humble sheep” when I enter the workforce. I hope to learn more and exchange ideas with Mr. Yam again after the semester ended. At last, thank you so much for the sponsorship scheme. It allows us to enjoy the time with delectable Japanese food. Thank you so much!
